Athlone Town FC have fallen victim to the much-maligned Twitter character count.
The club’s official Twitter account posted an update informing their fans that the Club Shop suffered a break-in on Wednesday night.
However, the dreaded 140 character count transformed their very serious post into a bit of an amusing tweet.

When you follow the link to the Facbook post, everything gets cleared up. Although nothing was stolen from the premises, quite a bit of vandalism was done.
“There was nothing taken this time but there was a lot of damage done to the shop front, windows and shuttering.”
The Westmeath club are appealing to anyone who has any information to contact the Gardaí.
