It’s like an episode of casualty.
As Louis van Gaal tries in vain to turn the tide of disenchantment at Old Trafford and save his job as the manager of Man United, he is facing something of an injury crisis.
Following the headline news that Wayne Rooney would miss up to two months due to knee ligament damage, van Gaal revealed that his captain is just one of thirteen players suffering from ailments.
“You can never say how long [Rooney] could be out for. He has a knee problem so we have to wait and see.
“He scores a lot of goals so he is very important for us. We know that but we have to cope with that.
“[Matteo] Darmian has a dislocated shoulder. It’s not the heaviest type so we are lucky, but he’s injured and out.
“Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is ill and cannot play either. So we have 13 players injured or not capable of playing.
“Fellaini is injured. He has a muscle problem because he has played a lot of matches in a row.”
The full injury list (and their maladies) is below. It certainly doesn’t make good reading for the Old Trafford faithful.
