The best goalkeepers of the Premier League season so far have been revealed

Not an Irishman in sight

Manchester United fans were chuffed to bits when David de Gea signed a new deal – but it seems he’s not even the best goalkeeper at Old Trafford this season.

That’s according to the stats compiled by EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. They looked at the metric of saves per goals conceded to calculate who were the top ten goalkeepers of the season thus far.

Predictably, Petr Cech is the number one number one on the list, but there’s a few surprises after the Arsenal man. Crystal Palace’s Alex McCarthy is next best ranked, followed by Spurs’ Hugo Lloris.

Perhaps most surprising is that Man United’s reserve stopper Sergio Romero appears a whole four places above preferred teammate David de Gea, whilst Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois is nowhere to be seen.

Of course, some may say the ratings are somewhat biased towards keepers playing behind weaker defences, and that there are other factors involved, but the results make fascinating reading nonetheless.
