Liverpool scored first but their porous defence gave up three to their hosts

The pressure on Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has intensified after Crystal Palace condemned last season’s second-placed side to their sixth defeat in 12 league games.

Liverpool hit the front after just 90 seconds when Rickie Lambert (below) scored his first goal for the Merseyside club. Palace were level before half-time, however, as Dwight Gayle was quickest to the ball after Yannick Bolasie struck a post.

Rodgers threw on Fabio Borini as he chased three points but Palace struck twice in the final 20 minutes to win the day. Joe Ledley calmly slotted home before Gayle cannily won a free-kick some 25 yards out. Australian international Mile Jedinak stepped up and curled home beauty.

The result sees Palace climb out of the relegation zone. Liverpool drop to 12th.
