This is bizarre.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and all that, but some opinions can leave you scratching your head. Like, if given a choice, selecting Joe Hart instead of David de Gea.
Pearce managed Hart for Manchester City and England U21’s, but surely that’s no excuse for leaving out De Gea.
The Manchester United goalkeeper has been the best in his position this season in the Premier League, and has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world. So, no offence Joe Hart, but you can imagine our surprise when former England defender Stuart Pearce omitted the Spaniard from his combined United Manchester City line-up.
Pearce was on Sky Sports News HQ this morning, presumably because Alan Curbishley had a prior engagement, selecting his combined team of the two Manchester sides, and De Gea’s omission wasn’t his only peculiar choice.
There’s no room for Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Pablo Zabaleta or Ander Herrrera.
Pearce’s last job in management was at Nottingham Forrest, but we’re not going to make a joke saying ‘we can see why, judging by this team selection’.
No, definitely not going to make that joke.
