Charlie Fearns will now be able to travel to Seattle with his family for life-saving cancer treatment.

Sophie Fearns’ worst nightmares came true, earlier this year, when her 10-year-old son was diagnosed with leukaemia for a third time.

On two occasions, young Charlie has battled the disease and won. For cancer to return again was a cruel blow.

Fearns’ best chance to beat cancer for a third time is to undergo expert treatment in Seattle. The treatment focuses on tapping into the patient’s own immune system to help battle the disease.

Having set up Charlie’s Chance to raise funds for their son’s treatment, the Fearns were faced with the daunting task of raising £100,000. They have been helped by a plethora of generous donations and a recent event held by former Liverpool defender Nick Tanner.

And, with that £100,000 figure achieved, last night, a £25,000 donation from Steven Gerrard was an extra boost that set Sophie’s spirits soaring.

Gerrard has met the football-mad youngster previously and has publicly backed the fundraising efforts in the past.

One imagines the Fearns will need every penny of the money raised to give young Charlie every possible hope of pulling through his latest fight.
