Steven Gerrard to Galaxy: Seven other Liverpool legends that took LA by storm

Anne Robinson's flame burned bright yet brief

Patrick McCarry

Stevie G and his patented Hollywood pass are off to Los Angeles but he is not the first Liverpool legend to jet off to Tinseltown

Gerrard will join up with Robbie Keane at LA Galaxy next season after his 18-month MLS contract was officially confirmed. The path the Merseysider will tread is well worn at this stage and has been taken by some giants of the entertainment business.

If the midfielder can replicate the success of this likely lot, his time in Major League Soccer should be a blast.

The Beatles

Tickets to The Fab Four’s first LA shows ranged from $3 to $7 and sold out in just over three hours. They returned two years later to play to 36,000 at Dodgers Stadium. They stayed in a Hollywood house rented from Zsa Zsa Gabor during a 1966 North American tour.

Rex Harrision

The classically trained stage actor found fame on the silver screen with his portrayal of Professor Henry ‘Iggins (Higgins) opposite Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.

Holly Johnson

The lead singer of Frankie Goes to Hollywood enjoyed the mid 1980s ride as the band went global with hits such as Relax and Two Tribes. LA embraced Johnson & co. as did the rest of the USA – they won Best New Artist at the 1985 Grammy Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards. Friends’ Ross Geller was a big fan too.

Ross Relax

Kim Cattrall

Played Samantha in Sex in the City and a female Pharaoh reawakened in the plastic shelling of a mannequin in a Manhattan boutique in the 1980s (no joke) in Mannequin.

Rick Astley

‘We’re no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I.’ So loved in the States that Family Guy’s Brian was still paying musical tribute two decades after Astley’s first taste of pop success.

Dreamball 2013

Ian Hart

The hard-working Liverpudlian landed the plumb role of Professor Quirrell in the Harry Potter movie series. He played a Beatle in Backbeat and appeared in Boardwalk Empire. Looks as if he gets on great with Courtney Cox too.

2007 Winter TCA Press Tour - Day 1

Anne Robinson

The journalist-turned-quizmistress cracked the USA with The Weakest Link but Stone Cold Steve Austin was less than impressed and this contestant left her dumbstruck.
