Another milestone in a remarkable Liverpool career.
As Rob Green palmed away a medium penalty effort on Saturday, it looked as though Steven Gerrard’s supposed fairytale end to his playing days on Merseyside had been padlocked inside a gingerbread cottage.
The Liverpool skipper, who will move to LA Galaxy when the Premier League season is out, watched in agony as the QPR goalkeeper saved his spot-kick, with The Spion Kop watching on.
Gerrard then watched Liverpool concede an equaliser but he was not done yet. With 86 minutes on the clock, the midfielder loafed home the match-winner from a Philippe Coutinho corner.
The net-rustler was Gerrard’s 184th for his home-town club. It moved him to a outright position of fifth in the club’s list of all-time top scorers.
Gerrard was previously tied on 183 with former team-mate Robbie Fowler.
