Most people had the same reaction to Joey Barton’s red card yesterday.
The QPR midfielder was sent off for throwing a sneaky, flicked low blow at Tom Huddlestone and the general reaction was a series of shoulders being shrugged.
Barton getting sent off isn’t surprising, yesterday’s dismissal was the ninth of his career and his eighth card in as many Premier League games.
QPR lost the game game 2-1 to Hull City and Barton apologised for his actions, saying he was ‘gutted’ and his reaction was ‘stupid’.
When asked about the incident, Hull manager Steve Bruce replied with an early contender for quote of the year.
Steve Bruce: "You can't be punching people in the knackers can you?" #hcafc

Exactly Brucie, you can’t. Wise words from the Hull manager, which philosophy student Barton will undoubtedly appreciate and spend considerable time reflecting on.
