We don’t mind admitting that we didn’t predict this one.
Stephanie Roche, who has been shortlisted for the FIFA Puskas award for the now famous goal she scored during her time at Peamount United, has made the decision to part ways with current club ASPTT Albi.
According to reports from France24, the 25-year-old made the decision after spending Christmas at home in Dublin.
“(She has) decided to leave Albi .. she doesn’t want to return to France,” coach David Welferinger told AFP today.
“She has benefited so much from her success, inevitably, she has had other offers from richer clubs. This is normal, we’re not going to hold her back, we’re studying the terms of breach of contract and wish her good luck even if we’re a little sad.”
We don’t think her decision will affect the voting for her goal to win the highly coveted Puskas award, which is awarded each year to the scorer of the best goal.
Her above effort is currently up against the memorable World Cup goals of James Rodriguez and Robin van Persie and can be voted for here.
