In 2001, boys wanted the Ljunberg red-dye hairdo. The next year, kids wanted the Beckham mohawk. Nobody ever wanted whatever Kevin Keegan was trying to pull off in the 70s. but you get our point. Young lads base their hairstyles on their footballing heroes.
And Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is leading to a demand for peroxide not seen since Eminem burst onto the scene in the late 1990s.
The Frenchman is known for his rather recognisable do, shaved tight on the sides with a blonde mop on top.
And, according to barbers in Madrid, a phenomenon known as “Griezmannia” is running wild across the city with droves of young boys clamouring to have their very own Antoine.
Speaking to AS, Madrid’s Salon Mima owner Miriam Martinez said: “David Beckham is the most imitated footballer ever, though all his styles were already a trend and he asked for them the next day. Griezmann is different. He creates the trend. This cut did not exist until he did it.”
