It’s been a miserable weekend for Manchester United.
With the top four set to play each other, United had the opportunity to gain ground on at least two of them with a victory over relegation-threatened Sunderland.
Unfortunately, yesterday’s defeat at the Stadium of Light left United supporters disappointed.
It caps off a tough few weeks for fans of the Old Trafford club. Having seen rivals Manchester City tie down Pep Guardiola from the start of next season, they’ve watched on as their team’s board have backed their own manager – despite recording their lowest ever points tally at this stage of a Premier League season.
And as well as the Guardiola announcement, speculation has also suggested that Paul Pogba might be heading to the Etihad.
The Juventus midfielder left United in 2012, frustrated at a lack of first team opportunities at Old Trafford. United supporters have since rued their club’s failure to keep Pogba, with the talented young Frenchman establishing himself as one of the greatest midfielders in the world game.
But it now appears that Pogba has no intention to return to Manchester. Despite interest from City, and a host of other European clubs, a report from Sport magazine suggests Pogba has his eyes set on a move to Spain, with Barcelona said to be his preferred destination
Of course, United fans would much rather Pogba had never been allowed to leave Manchester in the first place, but the thought of him wearing a Barca shirt will be much more easy to stomach than seeing him in light blue.
