Sir Kenny Dalglish has revealed that he is undergoing treatment for cancer.
Dalglish confirmed the news with a statement on social media.
The 75-year-old Liverpool legend wrote: "As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well.
"Ideally, this would have remained private because that's the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand. I did not mean to make this matter public, so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself is respected.
"As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves."
His son Paul Dalglish replied, writing: "Love you, Dad."
Liverpool has also since released a statement, saying: "The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family. The club would also like to underscore his request for privacy moving forward."
Dalglish is a Liverpool legend, making 515 appearances and scoring 172 goals between 1977 and 1990. Signed to replace Kevin Keegan after his move to Hamburg, he went on to lead the club to six league titles, four League Cups and an FA Cup.
He was player-manager between 1985 and 1990 and later went on to manage Liverpool once more in 2011/12.
Dalglish has served as a Liverpool ambassador at Anfield and remains extremely closely connected to the club to this day.
