So footballers do read what people say about them online.
Simon Mignolet was on the defensive today, responding directly to some criticism from a Facebook user.
The Liverpool goalkeeper, who largely splits opinion amongst the Anfield faithful, with many feeling he is not commanding enough to be the club’s number one, had a shared a link about an impressive record for 2015.
Mignolet’s clean sheet in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Leicester was his 15th of the year, and more than any other Premier League goalkeeper in the past 12 months.
However, one fan called the Belgian out for his apparent lack of consistency.
Mignolet shot straight back, saying:
“You talk about consistency? Having the most clean sheets in the PL this year is consistency! Nobody is perfect people should stop talking about the negative points and show more supports.”
We reckon Simon has been waiting a while to get that off his chest.
The exchange happened on Mignolet’s official Facebook page.
