Sergio Ramos flirted with Manchester United before getting the pay deal he was really after.
He told Real fans, after penning a new contract, that he never really wanted to leave.
We can’t imagine David De Gea will attempt to use a similar line, the next time he appears for interviews at Manchester United.
De Gea will return to Manchester, later this month, after his spot of international duty with Spain.
He had the suit bought for his Real Madrid presentation. It was supposed to happen at 1pm [Spanish time] on Tuesday but his intended couldn’t get the paperwork through in time.
De Gea declined to talk to the collected media, last night, as he reported to the Spanish national team.
Sergio Ramos, his international teammate, did stop for a natter.
His view on the transfer clusterbomb was extremely serene.
‘Life goes on,’ Ramos mused. ‘Nobody has died for this.
‘He must maintain his level; he is one of the best goalkeepers.’
The defender added, ‘The world of football and signings is like this. Everyone tries to get the most and this is never easy for any player.
‘He has had a bumpy summer because he has decided his future and that of his family. But it is something we have to go through at times, everyone has to understand the facts and do their best wherever they are.’
