Renato Sanches’ poorly timed tweet has infuriated Swansea fans

Swansea City are still a Premier League club. For now, at least.

Results this week have left the Swans 18th in the English top flight, three points adrift of Southampton, who beat them 1-0 on their own patch on Tuesday. The defeat appears to have been a costly one, with Carlos Carvalhal's side needing a miracle if they are to stay up on the final day of the season. A win at home to already-relegated Stoke City would draw them level on points with Southampton if Mark Hughes' men lose their game with champions, Manchester City. Even if this were to happen, Swansea are nine goals worse off than the Saints when it comes to goal difference. So, with Swansea all but mathematically relegated, you can understand why some of their fans weren't all that happy with Renato Sanches' latest tweet... The Portuguese midfielder was signed by Bayern Munich from Benfica in 2016. Despite being highly rated, Sanches failed to make an impression in the German champions' first team in his debut season in Bavaria. As a result, he was signed by Swansea's former manager Paul Clement on a season-long loan for the 2017/18 campaign. It's fair to say that Sanches' spell in south Wales hasn't exactly lived up to the hype. Not featuring for the club since a January FA Cup game against Notts County where he injured his hamstring. Within 24 hours of Swansea's hopes of beating the drop being dented by Southampton, Sanches (or whoever's responsible for his Twitter account) tweeted news of his soon to be released emoji.
