The League Two side thrashed United in San Diego, but things got pretty heated

Wrexham’s Paul Mullin was rushed to hospital after tempers flared in a tense pre-season friendly against Manchester United in San Diego. Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has reacted to the incident and sent a message of support to Mullin.

The League Two striker picked up the nasty injury just 12 minutes into the game when United’s Nathan Bishop absolutely clattered him.

Mullin never saw the goalkeeper coming and he was left in a heap on the turf. The Wrexham star required treatment that included receiving oxygen.

According to The Guardian reports, seven minutes passed before Mullin, still breathing via the mask.

Ryan Reynolds sends his support

Ryan Reynolds, the Wrexham co-owner, tweeted about the incident, wishing the Wrexham striker a speedy recovery.

It has since been revealed that he suffered a punctured lung, but is recovering in hospital. The United goalkeeper’s evening also took an unwanted turn.

Having been booked for the challenge (the first of a total of four in the match), the 23-year-old was booed and jeers subsequently studded every touch of the ball of the former Southend keeper. The crowd was already pretty hostile towards United.

Since the takeover of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhinney, Wrexham A.F.C have become fan favourite in the USA, and it told in San Diego.

There was rapturous cheering for the first goal, which saw Ben Tozer loop in a long cross for Aaron Hayden to latch onto following a neat flick from Max Cleworth.

They eventually came away 3-1 winners against a United team full of young talent (bar Johnny Evans, of course). Watch the highlights below:
