John Giles will get to put his feet up on Saturday, gnaw his nails and hope for the best.
It was only a matter of time before John Giles made less and less TV appearances.
The 74-year-old, who played with distinction for Ireland for 20(!!) years, will not appear on our telly screens this weekend as Ireland do Euro 2016 Qualifier battle with Scotland.
RTÉ are going with Richie Sadlier on their panel – to complement Eamon Dunphy and Liam Brady – for the crucial encounter at the Aviva Stadium.

The national broadcaster has reacted swiftly to this morning’s story in The Star, stating that Giles has not been permanently dropped from the main panel.
A spokesperson for RTÉ has confirmed that they assess each match, and how best to present, on a case by case basis.
