SportsJOE

RTE will broadcast all of the Republic of Ireland’s Women’s National Team’s upcoming UEFA Women’s European Championship 2021 home qualifiers.

Ireland will face Montenegro at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday 3 September and Ukraine on Tuesday 8 October with both games live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.

RTÉ will also have live coverage of the semi-finals and finals of the UEFA Women’s U-19 Championship (RTÉ Player) and the Republic of Ireland’s men’s UEFA U19 Championship group games against Norway (Monday 15 July), France (Thursday 18 July) and Czech Republic (Sunday 21 July) on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.

RTÉ also revealed that an average audience of 220,000 tuned-in on RTÉ2 to watch England play America in the semi-finals with the audience peaking at 316,700 viewers as the game reached a climax.

This meant that a total of 20% of those watching TV in Ireland at the time were watching the game on RTÉ2.

Declan McBennett, Group Head of Sport RTÉ commented: “The continuous growth in viewing figures as the tournament has progressed shows the value in bringing a global tournament to an Irish audience free to air.

“RTÉ, TG4 and indeed BBC are to be commended for backing the Women’s World Cup to the level they did. The tournament has created not only new heroes for many young girls and boys but also new role models given the level of expertise and insight witnessed across the television panels.”
