Handy to have a League of Ireland club up the road from your house.
Robbie Keane is still figuring out his next move in professional football but keeping his eye at Shamrock Rovers.
The former Ireland captain moved on from LA Galaxy late last year after a successful stint in Major League Soccer.
He is hoping to find another club at a high level but is not rushing into his next move. The Irish Independent report that Keane was a surprise presence at Rovers’ Roadstone training premises.
He has been in touch with former Ireland teammate Damien Duff, who coaches an underage team at Rovers and is involved with senior team training sessions. The training session ideas has the backing of Rovers boss Stephen Bradley.
There have been no suggestions that Keane will be a surprise signing by the Tallaght-based club although it remains a possibility in the not too distant future. For now, Keane is seeking one last challenge either in a top division league or one that is trying to make a name for itself [such as China].
Earlier this year, the 36-year-old trained in Dubai with Al-Ahli and he was heavily linked with a January transfer move to Preston North End, but PNE boss Simon Grayson suggested the club could not afford him.
For now, Keane will stay fit at Rovers while the club’s players benefit from training alongside Ireland’s record goalscorer.
