“We announce the successor to Dutchman Pascal Jansen to lead our 35-time champion and 24-time cup winner team”

Hungarian champions Ferencvaros have announced that Robbie Keane has taken over as head coach of the Budapest club, who are the biggest and most successful team in the country with 35 top-flight titles.

Ireland’s top goalscorer replaces former manager Pascal Jansen, who has signed with MLS side New York City FC.

Keane spent 18 months with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, before leaving in June, after leading them to the 2023-2024 Israeli Premier League title.

The 44-year-old has also managed Indian side ATK and has worked as a coach with Ireland, Middlesbrough, and Leeds United.

However, Keane has come under fire in recent months due to his time as a coach in Israel.

In a statement on their website, Ferencvaros said:

“We announce the successor to Dutchman Pascal Jansen to lead our 35-time champion and 24-time cup winner team, as the 146-time national team player of the Republic of Ireland Robbie Keane has signed on Monday. The new head coach arrived in Budapest on Sunday evening and will leave on Tuesday to join our team at the training camp in Spain.”
