That was quick.
One imagines Liverpool have been planning for the departure of Philippe Coutinho for a number of weeks now.
The Brazilian, it was confirmed on Saturday, is moving to Barcelona on a deal reported to be £142m. Reds fans hoped he would stay on until the end of the season but it is not to be.
Jurgen Klopp released a nice statement wishing Coutinho well but looks to have a replacement already lined up.
BeIN Sport France is reporting that the Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez is set for a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training facility on Sunday ahead of a €55m move.
Mahrez, who claimed the Premier League title with Leicester in May 2016, is on the verge of signing a deal with Liverpool that will keep him at Anfield until June 2022.
The reports come less than 24 hours after Leicester were said to have been told that the Algerian was not a target of the Merseyside club. Now that Coutinho’s move to Barca is official, that stance could have changed and pretty quickly too.
A day is a long time when you have a sack of money to spend.
