As if qualifying wasn’t enough.
As if playing for your country wasn’t enough.
As if playing with Jon Walters wasn’t enough.
The Republic of Ireland squad will receive a €1m bonus to be shared amongst them for qualifying for France in 2016.
The FAI have landed a minimum €8m for making it to the European Championships and, with extra friendly matches on the horizon as a result, the country are reaping monetary rewards for a bit of success and the players are getting a cut of that.
Players’ representative, Ciaran Medlar, had been working to agree a player bonus with the FAI and the squad will now pocket €1m for their efforts and Robbie Keane is happy anyway.
“We are pleased to have finalised this agreement quickly and cordially with the FAI through our representative, Ciaran Medlar,” the skipper confirmed.
“The players are all very focused on preparing for the tournament. We are delighted to have reached the Euro 2016 finals and really looking forward to an exciting group.”
Well deserved bonus. Now… get to work!
