Breaking News: Manchester United have scouts.
With the club’s reported pursuits of Neymar, Sergio Ramos and Thomas Muller, you’d be forgiven for thinking the transfer policy consists of Ed Woodward attempting to sign players that he’s encountered on Fifa 16.
However, it appears United still do some scouting and are lining up a move for a highly rated young Portuguese midfielder.
According to the Daily Mail, the club held talks with Benfica for Renato Sanches, a 18 year old dubbed the “next Edgar Davids”.
Sanches broke into the Portuguese side’s first-team this season, making 11 appearances and scoring two goals. United scouts have reportedly watched him in three of his last four games. The youngster, a versatile, attacking midfielder, won’t be cheap though. Sanches has a buy-out clause of £60million, but Benfica are believed to be prepared to accept £30million during the current window. If the deal is completed, he’ll remain with the club until the end of the season.
Hopefully, for United’s sake, he really is the next Edgar Davids and not the next Anderson.
