Report: Manchester United preparing a £60m bid for Paul Pogba

It could be a busy summer at Old Trafford

Robert Redmond

There seems to be more to this than mere speculation.

Manchester United are looking for five new first team players, and Paul Pogba tops the list. Writing in today’s The Daily Telegraph, journalist Jason Burt says the Premier League side are prepared to spend £60 million to sign the French midfielder from Juventus.

United also want a central defender, are keeping tabs on Gareth Bale’s situation and are ready to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo if he makes it known he’s prepared to leave Real Madrid.

Pogba is the club’s primary target though. The midfielder left Old Trafford in 2012 on a free transfer following a dispute between his agent and the club, over the midfielder’s lack of playing time, but has since developed into one of the most promising players in the world.

Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested in the player.

The club are also, according to Burt, very happy with Van Gaal, have full faith in his ability to turn things around and he will be manager next season, even if United don’t make the Champions League.

Burt reports that United will not be making Radamel Falcao’s transfer permanent and that the club is prepared to move for either Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo, should either be available this summer.

Mats Hummels fits the mould of ball-playing central defender manager Louis van Gaal has sought since taking charge last summer, and the club may also make a move for a right-back.

While Angel di Maria will remain at Old Trafford, despite recent poor form and the player’s difficult transition since joining last summer.

United chiefs also realise they face a significant fight to keep hold of David de Gea, with Real Madrid potentially interested in signing the Spanish goalkeeper.

It looks to be a busy summer at Old Trafford, with new transfers likely to spell the end of a number of current first-team player’s United careers.
