REPORT: Jose Mourinho prepared to trim squad by three players

Youth out

Patrick McCarry

Will Keane is 23 and has played two games for Manchester United.

The Stockport native scored against Wigan, on Saturday, and is currently in China on United’s preseason tour. Another couple of solid outings may see Jose Mourinho keep him around for 2016/17. The Telegraph are not so sure, however.

The newspaper reports that Mourinho will trim some youth from the United squad before the transfer window closes.

Keane, Tyler Blackett and James Wilson are all up for grabs, with the club willing to entertain offers for all three. The players were loaned out, respectively, to Preston, Celtic and Brighton last season with varying degrees of success. Keane fared the best while Blackett’s time in Scotland was hindered by injury and poor form.

Wilson did not set Brighton alight but there is already firm interest in the England U21 international.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is said to want Wilson in on a season-long loan. That may suit United best, rather than cutting the striker lose for a less than stellar financial return.

Keane has three England U21 caps and once turned down Irish advances to play underage football. His brother, Michael, played for Ireland at underage level, U17 and U19, but switched to England to play for their U21 side. Michael Keane is subject to a reported £15m bid from Leicester City.
