Eva Carneiro, Chelsea’s club doctor who remains exiled from first-team duties, is reportedly preparing to take the club to court for what she sees as unlawful treatment.
Carneiro, and club physio Jon Fearn, have not worked for the club since entering the pitch to tend to a seemingly injured Eden Hazard on the opening day of the season.
They were waved on by the referee and thus, according to the rules of the game, had no choice but to enter the field of play. It was an act that angered Jose Mourinho, who feels it was ‘naive’ and ‘impulsive’.
The case is due to be reviewed by Fifa’s medical committee on Friday, but if there is no offer of reinstatement by the club, the Independent report that Carneiro is likely to issue legal proceedings.
The newspaper claim that sexism could form a key part of the case.
Carneiro reportedly alleges that Mourinho called her ‘a secretary’ in his post-match comments.
Fifa’s medical committee are due to review the case this Friday and if they decide Chelsea and Mourinho have a case to answer it may well prompt legal action.
