Radamel Falcao and Mario Balotelli make Twitter Dream Team, for nefarious reasons

No doubt

In another time, another place, another realm, another astral plane, these two lads would be some strike partnership.

The 2014/15 Premier League season is now a bitterly sweet memory.

The only thing left to do is hand out awards and compile statistics.

Twitter boffins have released the most tweeted about matches, moments, coaches and players of the season, and there are a few surprising faces.

Juan Mata’s sublime overhead goal again Liverpool, at Anfield, beat out strikes from Robin van Persie and Didier Drogba for the most tweeted about moment of the season. No complaints there.

When it comes to the Twitter Dream Team – an alternative XI based on mentions on their social media platform – there is a mix of impressive players, controversial figures and two lads who scored five league goals between them all season.

That’s right, Radamel Falcao and Mario Balotelli lead the line and, doubtless, leave Alexis Sanchez with a heavy goalscoring burden.

As for defence and midfield, only Cesc Fabregas and possibly Pablo Zabaleta and Mesut Ozil can argue that they had seasons to remember. David de Gea starts in goal but may be busy cleaning up for his less than secure back four.
