The Welshman is still getting a hard time in the Spanish press
Despite all he achieved last season, being the world’s most expensive player still brings an unbelievable level of scrutiny onto Gareth Bale.
We would have thought his decisive goals in the Copa del Rey and Champions League final would have bought him a lorry load of good grace with the Real Madrid fans but they have been on his back for the bulk of the season, and it continued last night.
The former Spurs man didn’t have a good game, but in that he was not alone among his Real Madrid team-mates. One shot, off target, and a pass percentage of just 57 per cent was definitely a poor night but we think Spanish paper AS is being particularly harsh by refusing to rate him, the only player to suffer such an ignominy.

There are also reports this morning that Bale’s car was attacked by Real Madrid ‘fans’ after the game too.
At this point, regardless of all he has achieved, you wouldn’t blame Bale for looking for a move away from the Bernabeu.
