We don’t know why it irks fans so much but it certainly does.
The phenomenon is a curious one. Spending a cup final sat in the stands in all your finery only for the final whistle to blow and you rush to change into your jersey and shorts as if to trick yourself into thinking you played.
John Terry was a recidivist when it came to this, performing costume changes before the trophy presentations of Chelsea’s Champions League and Europa League final victories in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
And Nemanja Matic obviously learned well from his skipper as, after being suspended for today’s Capital One Cup final, he made the switch from suit to shorts at the final whistle.
Matic….great player, but you’ve gone down in my estimation today #fullkitwanker pic.twitter.com/6jYE5Yb2t5

And Twitter predictably took issue with this.
Matic is doing a John Terry!!

Matic wore full kit, eh? I guess it’s true what they say: the apple never falls far from the Terry
— Jon-T (@AchtungJono) March 1, 2015
Matic there in his full kit hah! He’s clearly learning how to be a prick from John Terry. #CapitalCupFinal #FullKitWanker

You’d think Terry might have said to Matic ‘It’s really not worth it…” #fullkit

I see Matic has done a “Terry” there. #Plasticflagwavingtossers!

Matic doing his best Terry impression. Full kit. Honestly do not get it. Scholes + Keane didn’t do it in the 99 CL Final. It’s embarrassing
— Kevin Holmes (@KevinH1505) March 1, 2015
Matic has put a full kit on to celebrate, that is so embarrassing! Terry did it for CL but ffs this is league cup lol

Matic is dressed in full kit. I’m sure boys in team told him to do that just to troll and piss some people off. #ChelseaAtWembely #Cfc

Nemenja Matic celebrating on the pitch in full kit with his team-mates. Looking to see if he’s wearing shinpads….
