PIC: Nemanja Matic with a John Terry-esque costume change, Twitter responds appropriately

From suit to full match kit

We don’t know why it irks fans so much but it certainly does.

The phenomenon is a curious one. Spending a cup final sat in the stands in all your finery only for the final whistle to blow and you rush to change into your jersey and shorts as if to trick yourself into thinking you played.

John Terry was a recidivist when it came to this, performing costume changes before the trophy presentations of Chelsea’s Champions League and Europa League final victories in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

And Nemanja Matic obviously learned well from his skipper as, after being suspended for today’s Capital One Cup final, he made the switch from suit to shorts at the final whistle.

And Twitter predictably took issue with this.
