PIC: Jermaine Pennant deletes absurd ‘joke’ tweet about Britain leaving the EU

Sure it was a joke, sure it was

Sure it was a joke, Jermaine. Sure it was.

You can rest easy, Jermaine Pennant has finally had his say on Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.

While people in Britain are trying to come to terms with the ramifications of one of the most decisive events in the country’s recent history, the former Liverpool winger asked his Twitter followers what effect will the vote have on England’s chances at the 2018 European Championships.

Of course, the World Cup is in 2018, to be hosted in Russia, and England are still part of Europe, just not the EU.

Needless to say, their membership of the Union has no bearing on their membership of Uefa and their ability to compete at Euro 2020.

Pennant, who is currently playing for Tampines Rovers in Singapore, threw his two cents into the debate.

Pennant, the only English footballer to have played in a Champions League final but never to play for England, claimed that he was joking, and we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

But he deleted the original tweet and spent the rest of the morning attempting to convince his followers that he was joking.

He protested perhaps a bit too much, but even if Pennant was being serious, others were on hand to make sure there were even less informative contributions to the issue.
