“If Louis van Gaal loses today, should he go?”
That was the question put to Paul Scholes on BT Sport before Man United’s match against Chelsea, but the former Red Devils midfielder gave an unexpected answer.
Despite being one of Van Gaal’s most vociferous critics in recent weeks, Scholes replied that the Dutchman deserves more time and United should think twice before pulling the trigger.
“Performances haven’t been good enough,” said Scholes. “But I think he should be given the chance to turn it around.
“He’s been at massive clubs and he’s done it before, so you give him the chance to turn the fortunes around.”
