Paul Scholes isn’t happy with “out of order” David de Gea

"How can you lose focus?"

Paul Scholes isn’t happy with David de Gea,

The Manchester United legend says the goalkeeper is “out of order” if, according to Louis van Gaal, he has lost focus due to interest from Real Madrid.

De Gea has yet to play for United this season, and has made it clear he wants to join the Spanish club.

Madrid have yet to submit a bid that matches United’s valuation of De Gea, who was the club’s player of the season the past two years, but has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

Louis van Gaal claimed the player hasn’t been selected due to concerns over his focus, and Scholes believes, if this is true, the player is behaving unprofessionally.Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League“How can you lose focus?” Scholes said on BT Sports last night, following United’s 4-0 win over Club Brugge.

“That’s the thing for me. He is getting paid by this club, it is a brilliant club.  They paid a lot of money on a young keeper to give him this chance. If the manager is right and says he has lost focus then yeah, I think he is out of order.

“He should be in that team playing. If it wasn’t for him last year, they probably wouldn’t be in this position (qualifying for the Champions League) tonight so they have to thank him for that.”

Former United teammate Rio Ferdinand was alongside Scholes last night, and said he’d be surprised if De Gea has been behaving in an unprofessional manner, but backed the Van Gaal’s judgement.

“Knowing David like we do, he has been a solid professional for the whole time he has been at Manchester United. He has never stepped out of line and I’d be surprised if he has done that.”

“But the manger says so, so we have to abide by that.’
