The Real Madrid dugout could have a distinct Liverpool feel next season.
Rafael Benitez is set to be announced as the new manager at the Santiago Bernabeu as early as tomorrow and not only will he be reunited with Spanish life but he may also be reunited with a man he knows well.
Benitez brought Fernando Morientes to Liverpool in 2005 and despite the fact that the forward failed to set the world on fire with his 12 goals in 60 appearances, Benitez has always been a fan of the Spaniard.
The current Napoli manager has a tendency to prefer working alongside people he knows well, as well as people who know the club well, and Morientes ticks both boxes to be Benitez’s second in command at Real Madrid.
Spanish newspaper Marca report that Morientes, who has completed all his coaching badges, is one of the frontrunners for the position as assistant manager when Rafa is confirmed as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.
