It has been announced that Belfast will host the draw for Euro 2028.
Northern Ireland was initially meant to be a co-host alongside England, Wales, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland, but this fell through due to the lack of a suitable stadium.
The plan was to redevelop Antrim's GAA ground, Casement Park, which has not been used since 2013, but the UK government would not fund this in time for the tournament.

The draw for the tournament, which will take place on December 6, 2026, at the ICC Belfast, has the feeling of a consolation prize, and commenters on social media have been quick to mock the debacle.

A massive opportunity to prove and promote the city, can be seen as a great project and revenue stream gone.
Sad really.
Irish FA president Conrad Kirkwood said: "We are incredibly proud that our city will play such an important role in delivering what will be the best-ever EURO - one that celebrates passion, inclusivity and the power of football to bring people together," said Irish FA president Conrad Kirkwood.
"It's a proud moment for the Irish FA and for everyone who loves football here in Northern Ireland."
Irish FA CEO Patrick Nelson added: "It's a real privilege to host the qualifying draw for Uefa Euro 2028 - a key milestone in what promises to be a memorable, world class tournament," added Irish FA CEO Patrick Nelson.
"We'll welcome UEFA's leadership, national associations and teams to Belfast, giving them the chance to experience everything our city and ICC Belfast have to offer.
"It's fantastic news for Belfast, for Northern Ireland and for football across these islands."

My kids will tell their Grandkids where they were the day the table tennis bslls were pulled from the drum in Belfast….☘️☘️
Ireland will generate monstrous money for this tournament, meanwhile the irrelevant subjects of England have shot themselves in the foot, like always, and get a nice pat on the head to make them feel included.

Maybe next time England will allocate those funds for Casement!
