Despite Manchester United’s troubles, we reckon Louis van Gaal still regards himself as one of the best coaches in the world.
If not in the top one, definitely in the top three. However, Wayne Rooney doesn’t seem to agree.
The voting record for the Fifa coach of the year award has been released. The award was won by Luis Enrique, who helped guide Barcelona to five trophies during 2015 and was undoubtedly a deserved recipient.
However, Wayne Rooney didn’t opt for him either.
As England captain he gets to vote in the award, but he chose former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in first place, ahead of Pep Guardiola and Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli, who won the Copa America.
Official Fifa voting list records Wayne Rooney's votes for Fifa world coach of the year:
1) Mourinho 2) Guardiola 3) Sampaoli

We doubt Van Gaal would approve of his skipper’s choices, but then again, Rooney would be unlikely to feature in his top three players last year either, so they could possibly call it even.
