Whatever happened to scrawling a permanent marker message on a white Penney’s t-shirt?
Manchester United were holding out for a hero, last night, and Memphis stepped forward.
The Dutch winger, wearing the famous United No.7 jersey, scored two goals and set up a third for Marouane Fellaini, helping his side to a 3-1 win over Club Brugge.
While his second was well struck, and his cross for Fellaini’s goal sublime, Memphis’ first goal was outstanding. It hinted that his £25m transfer fee from PSV Eindhoven may well prove to be a bargain.

Depay admitted, post-match, that he was desperate to score his first goal for United.
There must have been a healthy dollop of confidence thrown into the mix, too, if his boots are anything to go by.

Photographers will be zooming in on footballers’ boots for the foreseeable future after this prophetic message.
Memphis followed that Instagram post up with his take on his first European outing at Old Trafford: ‘A win, two goals, Champions League debut. It was a good night, but there are better yet to come…’
No wonder United boss Louis van Gaal wanted to kiss him.
