Only two months into the job, Mick McCarthy has been sacked by the notoriously ruthless board at Cyprus club APOEL.
Having overseen four straight defeats, the former Republic of Ireland manager was yet to record a win at his new club. The Cypriot kingpins have slipped down to 11th in the table and as a result, they have sacked McCarthy who had been given a contract until 2022.

The news, reported by Talksport, will come as a blow to Irish midfielder Jack Byrne who signed for the club just two days ago and made his debut on Tuesday night. APOEL lost the game 2-1 to rivals Doxa, with Byrne entering the fray in the 86th minute of the game.
McCarthy is believed to have played a big role in bringing the Dubliner to the club and it remains to be seen how he will fit into the new manager's plans.
Local media have already installed former Cyprus international Savvas Poursaitidis as the favourite to take the job.
