Michael Carrick could be in his final few months at Manchester United

Considering his options

Michael Carrick is almost due a testimonial at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United midfielder will be with the club 10 years this summer, but is also out of contract at the end of the season and is attracting attention from Premier League clubs, according to the Sun.

The media outlet also claim the 34 year old is “willing to listen to offers” and clubs such as Newcastle United and Paris Saint Germain were interested in him last summer.

Carrick, as he is in the final five months of his current deal, a 12 month extension he signed at the end of last season, is free to negotiate with other clubs.GettyImages-483387750Carrick was United’s player of the year in the 2012/13 title winning season, but has had his game-time reduced since due to a series of niggling injuries.

The Sun also claim that MLS franchises and other Premier League clubs are interested in signing the midfielder, but that United will offer him a new deal.

You’d imagine Carrick’s first preference would be to re-sign with United, considering his ability hasn’t declined and he has a strong affinity with the club.

Is it possible the newspaper are just using Carrick’s contact situation as a way to take a cheeky dig at Louis van Gaal?
