Memphis Depay hasn’t been playing much football as of late.
So that’s one topic of discussion that’s been off the table.
The Manchester United winger has only started one game since being hauled off at half-time by Louis van Gaal in his side’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.
Reports from Old Trafford claim that United assistant manager Ryan Giggs sat Depay down to let him know that his lavish lifestyle would not be conducive to succeeding at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Dutchman loves a night out and has been pictured out on the town in flashy clothing, notably the somewhat ridiculous hat above, and Depay was asked about his choice of headgear by Dutch TV station NOS.
“Yes, that’s a hat. That’s flamboyant? It’s just a hat, I think it’s beautiful.
“It did not really hit me [the criticism]. They don’t know what I do to make to get to the Dutch team, to be fit. They only see me getting out of the car with the Dutch team with a hat on and that’s it.
“The story is still there, whether it’s true or not. I can not worry about it because I’m busy with my career and trying to become a better player.”
“Everyone should feel fine in the things they do. And everyone wears hats, I find it very exaggerated. It doesn’t really bother me. “
