No pressure son.
On Wednesday, we reported that Memphis Depay wanted to be the next player to wear Manchester United’s iconic No 7 jersey.
The Dutch attacker has gotten his wish.
Club legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have worn the famous jersey in the past.
However, since Michael Owen inherited the jersey from Ronaldo in 2009, United’s No 7’s have been less than distinguished.
In addition to Owen, Antonio Valencia felt so pressurised by the seven on his back, he switched back to his old No 25 after a single season.
And now, with Angel di Maria joining PSG, the squad number is vacant again. That was, until today:

Depay has worn No 9 on United’s pre-season tour, but, according to the club’s official website, no squad numbers have been officially designated to new signings such as Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Will Depay prove a worthy successor to Cantona et all? Or the new Michael Owen?
Either way, it’s a confident move by the 21-year-old.
