Memphis Depay has recorded a very surprising Premier League accolade

Really?

Robert Redmond

Memphis Depay has had a tough start to life in English football.

The Dutch winger joined Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven, and has thus far failed to deliver on the hype that heralded his arrival.

Depay has only scored one Premier League goal and has been substituted at half-time in United’s last two away games. He’s also lost the ball more than any other player in the division.

However, the 21 year’s number seven United jersey is the highest selling in the Premier League, and ranks only behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for jersey sales across Europe. The numbers have been crunched by website Kitbag.com, and are perhaps  more reflective of the popularity of Depay’s iconic number, wore by Untied legends such George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, than the player himself.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is fourth and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho rounds out the top ten.
