Mario Gomez’s bizarre injury sounds like a right pain in the hoop

Never heard of this one before

The injury that’s forcing Mario Gomez out of international duty this week is probably a lot more serious than it sounds.

The Wolfsburg striker has been ruled out of Germany’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Czech Republic and Northern Ireland this week because he is unable to train. Wolfsburg revealed in a statement that a very peculiar sounding injury is keeping the sharpshooter from the training ground.

“Mario Gomez must pass on the upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic (October 8th in Hamburg) and Northern Ireland (October 11th in Hannover).”

“The Wolves number 33 was forced to pull out of the DFB selection due to hardening of a buttock muscle and will not participate in training for a couple of days.”

Gomez suffered a hamstring injury at Euro 2016 which kept him out of Germany’s first World Cup qualifier against Norway. As far as we can tell, this hardened buttock issue is a new injury for the German star.
