At this point, you might ask, had it ever really started?
Mario Balotelli only managed one Premier League goal since joining Liverpool for £16 million from AC Milan last summer, and it’s safe to say Brendan Rodgers’ side looked stronger without him.
In fact, with Balotelli up front, Liverpool may as well had 10 players on the pitch.
With the arrivals of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, who returned from a loan spell with Lille, Balotelli didn’t look long for Anfield anyway, but he now appears to be in his finals weeks at the club.
Rodgers has reportedly banned the Italian striker from first team training, along with Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique, and Balotelli won’t be included in Liverpool’s remaining pre-season games.
While Rickie Lambert is reportedly close to sealing a move to West Brom.
Whether Liverpool will be so lucky to find a buyer for Balotelli is another thing, as the club reportedly want £10 million for the player.
