Mario Balotelli will be watching Euro 2016 in the pub judging by his manager’s comments

Mario shouldn't get too excited about playing Ireland

Here’s something to be positive about Ireland fans… Kind of.

The Republic of Ireland were drawn alongside Sweden, Belgium and Italy in their Euro 2016 group. A tough draw for all the participants, but Azzurri and Liverpool striker – that’s right, he’s only on-loan at AC Milan – Mario Balotelli is excited about the group.

Balotelli, who scored against Ireland in Euro 2012, posted this message to his Instagram page after the draw.

Mario Euro 2016When asked about Balotelli’s post, Italy’s no-nonsense manager, according to Football Italia, Antonio Conte said: “He can’t wait for what? To watch us on TV or to play in the Euros?”GettyImages-497694262“It’s up to him, just as all the others, to prove himself,” Conte continued.

“He has to prove a lot. Really a lot. I have not closed the door on anyone. There are five months to the tournament and things could change.”

“However, things have to change in a clear and substantial manner. The players who took us to Euro 2016 qualification have the advantage and someone really has to impress to break into that group.”

We’re don’t want to tempt fate, as Balotelli has the talent to get back into the side, and possibly score against Ireland again, but the 25 year old’s career thus far suggests changing in a ‘clear and substantial manner’ is unlikely.
