Manchester United’s season summed up by these revealing statistics

Don't show Paul Scholes these stats

Robert Redmond

This effectively sums up Manchester United under Louis van Gaal.

Following today’s goalless draw away to Crystal Palace, the Premier League club have now gone three games and 325 minutes without scoring a goal.

Anthony Martial was the last player to score for United, in the Champions League game against CSKA Moscow, and the team’s sometime ponderous style of play hasn’t gone down well with some fans, or Paul Scholes.

Untied’s style of play, and their season in a nutshell, is summed up this statistic chart compiled by Sky Sports.United lead the league for average possession, but, rather damningly for Van Gaal and the team, also top the charts for backwards and sideways passes.

While, in attacking teams, they’re in the relegation zone for shots, passes per shot and and passes per chance created.

This chart will also undoubtedly provide ammunition to critics of Van Gaal.
