Transfers: More bad news for Manchester United concerning £60m bid for Thomas Muller

Looking unlikely

Patrick McCarry

Move over Pedro, here’s another player that won’t be joining Manchester United.

United fans are still coming to terms with the fact that Pedro looks set for a Chelsea move. Heaped atop that buzz-kill comes bad news from Germany.

Louis van Gaal sanctioned Ed Woodward to go get him Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller, with the United chief executive willing to splash out £60m.

Earlier this summer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (Bayern’s chief exec) had declared Muller was one of the team’s star players that does not have a price tag, for any club.

On Wednesday, Munich’s sporting executive Matthias Sammer said, ‘His performances have caused a stir, not Thomas.

‘We can’t be blamed for anything. Rummenigge was right when pointing out that he is a player who has no price tag.’

In other words, Kein Würfel. [Manchester Evening News]

We’ll be brief with this next MUFC knock-back.

Southampton v Manchester United - Premier League

Southampton are not willing to part ways with Sadio Mane. A Saints source told The Star, ‘He is a key part of our team and our planning for the future. He wouldn’t be sold.’

But enough of that. Here is a deal that is as good as done, according to a former Sky Sports pundit (Not the infrequently correct Guillem Balague).

Rodney Marsh has told talkSPORT that Arsenal have only gone and signed Karim bloody Benzema!

Real Madrid CF v Granada CF - La Liga

Marsh declared, ‘I had a phone call from a mate of mine, and he’s been right on many things, and he said that he believes Real Madrid have accepted a bid somewhere in the region of £48million for Benzema from Arsenal.

‘In the past this guy has always been right, he’s never been wrong yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.’

If Marsh’s mate is Balague, we’ll put our fist through the table.

Everton have bulked up their defence. The Toffees have reportedly agreed a £5m fee with River Plate for Ramiro Funes Mori. The 24-year-old defender has one cap for Argentina. [The Times]

Finally, it looks as though Emanuel Adebayor will not be needing a helicopter after all.

A fortnight after his Aston Villa transfer collapsed – due to his unwillingness to move out of London – the Tottenham striker will join West Ham. [The Telegraph]
