Manchester United fans are saying the same thing as club ‘close in’ on second transfer

Underwhelming?

It’s been a frustrating summer for Manchester United’s transfer-hungry supporters.

Having secured a Champions League return through their Europa League success, many expected them to celebrate by bringing in some big names.

A deal for Antoine Griezmann seemed likely, but fell apart after Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban. Following this, United were – yet again – linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo. Although most United supporters refused to believe that Ronaldo was ever set for an Old Trafford return anyway, word from Spain on Wednesday appeared to confirm that any faint hopes of this transfer taking place had been extinguished.

United have got one signing over the line – Victor Lindelöf – and according to reports on Thursday morning, a second transfer wasn’t too far away.

According to the Mail, Chelsea’s move for Monaco’s Tiemou Bakayoko could pave the way for Nemanja Matic to move to United – reuniting with former manager, Jose Mourinho.

This isn’t the first time in recent weeks that the Serbian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, despite playing a key role in Chelsea’s title success last season, news of his potential arrival hasn’t exactly excited United fans.

Although plenty of United supporters appear against the idea of Matic’s arrival, the 28-year-old is considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. Should he arrive, his presence should allow Paul Pogba to have more of an influence further up the field.
