History unfolding.
Manchester United failed to sting, or even flutter, Joe Hart’s gloves in the first half of their league encounter with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Despite naming what appeared to be an attacking side, United played Anthony Martial on the left wing and a confidence-shy Wayne Rooney up front.
They did not have a completely useless 45 minutes but they did fail to register a single shot – on or off target.
It was the first time since Opta Stats began that United managed to achieve this dubious honour. Opta began compiling Premier League statistics in 1996.
It was the second time this season, though, that United failed to find the target with any first half shots. They had three wide of the mark against Liverpool earlier this season.
0 – United v City is only the 2nd PL game this season not to have a shot on target in the 1st half, along with United v Liverpool. Blanks.
