It looks like this is a goer.
At the beginning of the transfer window, who’d have thunk that mid-way through July, we’d be intently scouring flight paths, stalking airport departures, and developing a Ross Geller-type obsession with who got on what plane.
And yet here are, doing just that. On Tuesday we were waiting to hear word on whether or not Ivan Perisic would in fact be boarding a flight to China with his Inter Milan teammates for a pre-season tour of the country.
With talk of a transfer to Manchester United gathering speed, the common consensus was that if a deal was as close as many in the media were suggesting, then the Croatian would be left behind in Italy to tie up the move.
Alas, in the end, Perisic did indeed check-in and board the eastern-bound aircraft so that kiboshed that idea. There are reports in the Daily Mirror, too, that United have ended their interest in Eric Dier after Tottenham dug their heels in.
However, all is not lost for United, as today’s instalment of Come Fly With Me has brought better news. Perhaps even more so than the Inter winger , Jose Mourinho sees Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic as a vital piece in his transfer jigsaw.
The player is reportedly desperate to come to Old Trafford, and there have been suggestions that Chelsea would be willing to sell at the right price, having signed Tiemoué Bakayoko. And it seems as though this one may actually have wings.
That’s because Matic was omitted from his current club’s own flight to China, meaning that something is surely afoot. There has been talk of interest from Juve as well, but the player is adamant – he wants United.
It remains to be seen whether Mourinho’s men will successfully land the player.
